I designed and produced PaperMaking, a publication focused on the history and process of handmade papermaking. The goal of the project was to create a book that not only communicated information about the craft but also reflected the tactile and handmade qualities of the subject itself.
The challenge was creating a publication where the design, photography, and physical construction all worked together to support the story. I researched traditional papermaking techniques and used that knowledge to develop a cohesive editorial system, from layout and typography to imagery and production details.
I planned, styled, and captured all photography featured throughout the book to visually document the papermaking process and create original imagery that complemented the editorial design. I designed the publication in Adobe InDesign, then hand-bound the final piece using beeswax-coated string. To further connect the object to its content, I created the cover using handmade paper produced from shredded paper pulp and dried hydrangea flowers, allowing the material itself to become part of the storytelling.
Through the combination of editorial design, photography, and hands-on fabrication, PaperMaking explores how thoughtful design can transform information into an immersive and meaningful experience.
