created Filth as a typography exploration that evolved into an investigation of irony, function, and the relationship between language and objects.
The challenge was transforming a simple word-based concept into a physical experience that encouraged viewers to question their assumptions. I wanted to explore how meaning changes when a familiar word is removed from its usual context and combined with an unexpected object.
I designed and constructed a sculptural installation that spells the word “filth” while incorporating a fully functional sink. By pairing an object associated with cleanliness with a word associated with dirt and contamination, the piece creates a contradiction that shifts the meaning of both elements.
Through the combination of typography, material, and function, Filth explores how design can influence perception and how the relationship between words and objects can create new interpretations.
